  • Pancreatic Cancer: This type of cancer, also known as exocrine cancer, occurs when malignant cells form in the tissues of the pancreas. In 2009, it’s estimated that 42,470 new cases will occur, and 35,240 deaths will result.   • Brain Tumors: This type of cancer is characterized by the abnormal growth of cells in brain tissue, cells that can be either benign or malignant.   • Esophageal Cancer: This type of cancer can be classified as squamous cell carcinoma, where flat cells lining the esophagus are determined to be cancerous, or adenocarcinoma, where the cells that are responsible for making and releasing mucus and other fluids are found to be cancerous. In 2009, it’s estimated that 16,470 new cases will occur, and 14,530 deaths will result. Some common symptoms of esophageal cancer include: difficult or painful swallowing, severe weight loss, pain in the throat or back, behind the breastbone or between the shoulder blades, hoarseness or chronic cough, vomiting, and, coughing up blood.

  • Gastric (Stomach) Cancer: This type of cancer results when cancerous cells form in the lining of the stomach. In 2009, it’s estimated that 21,130 new cases will occur, and 10,620 deaths will result. Some common symptoms of stomach cancer include: blood in the stool, fatigue, feeling bloated after eating, feeling full after eating little, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and, weight loss.

  • Liver Cancer: This type of cancer can either form in the tissues of the liver, or spread to the liver from other parts of the body. Some common symptoms of liver cancer include: losing weight without trying, loss of appetite, upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, general weakness and fatigue, an enlarged liver, abdominal swelling, and, yellow discoloration of your skin and the whites of your eyes (jaundice).
